Reminder – next week’s regular meeting will be at 8:00 a.m. in the big room at the Community Center for the 2nd Annual Community Breakfast. Please do not come at lunch time as we will not be there!RecapThis week we had speakers Beth Farrow and Katie Banks with Helen Ross McNabb Center in Knoxville. Helen Ross McNabb serves 26,000 people annually across 25 counties. They were established in 1948 by Helen, herself, who developed a passion for the mentally ill early on as a child. The company is one of the largest employers in our area and offers a wide range of services to assist people in need. They offer mental health services, substance abuse and addiction treatment, social services, crisis services, domestic violence shelters and services, criminal justice services, early childhood intervention and prevention services, foster care and adoption, as well as offer a sexual assault center. One of Beth’s favorite programs they offer is a preschool for young children that have suffered traumatic experiences and need extra counseling and support. CenterPointe, an addiction treatment center in Knoxville, offers short-term stay for 21-28 days for monitored medical detoxification. In addition, they offer intensive outpatient therapy with 140 units of housing to assist alcohol and drug dependent adults. They also have a mobile crisis unit to respond to emergency behavioral health crisis situations. Lastly, they serve military veterans as well with special programs. Helen Ross McNabb relies heavily on fundraisers to fund their efforts. They raise $500,000 annually for the center through these efforts. One of their biggest fundraisers, Beth Haynes 12 Days of Christmas Online Auction, is quickly approaching. This is one of their favorite fundraisers, as it raises money to serve needy children through the Dear Santa Program. This program assists over 1,500 children in our community with the greatest need. It provides Christmas gifts for children in poverty, residential children that live in their mental health facilities, as well as emergency funds needed in crisis situations such as last year’s devastating Smoky Mountain wildfires. The online auction begins on December 1st and new offers are launched continuously until December 12th. Businesses can donate monetarily, as well as gifts to auction off on the site as well. If you are interested in helping, please contact Beth at (865) 617-0731. More information is attached. |
